Just wanted to clear up a little info about what this setting will do.

Win32 systems use a method that halves virtual memory, i.e. 2gb dedicated to system resources, and 2gb dedicated to user space (on a 4gb VM system), where programs reside.

Using the aforementioned setting - bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 3072 - will basically change the divide, and force the system to use 3 quarters of the memory (3gb) for user resources, leaving one quarter (1gb) for the system.

This *can* have negative effects on some system resources, but that's quite unlikely since it has nothing to do with physical RAM, and the best news is that if you would like to go back to the original setting, use the following command:

bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 2048

Could be useful to roll back in case the fix doesn't work for O:DB, or if it does affect something else on your system negatively.

Some programs nowadays use something called "large address aware" coding (often abbreviated with "LAA"), Photoshop is a big hitter in LAA worlds as a lot of users use increased settings to advantageous effect.

So anyway, hope that helped, and at least now you have a way to roll back in case of problems, or a real fix that doesn't need this system alteration.

Hey I don't know nothing about the command string, only that it worked for me, I found this written on the a forum by someone about what this does...

A little background: 32-bit Windows divides its memory in half: 2GB of user space, where your programs run, and 2GB of system space, where the kernel runs and I/O devices live. So any one application (game, Office, whatever) can have up to 2GB of memory.

The command "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072" changes that division: it gives 3072MB (3GB) to user space and 1GB to system space. Not all applications can use the extra gigabyte, but some can: applications that are coded "large address aware" (LAA) are the ones that can.

TW2 is definitely LAA and can use more than 2GB if you let it. On some machines, this makes the difference between the game crashing and not crashing; on others, you may get better performance because resources don't have to be evicted from memory and later read back in so often.

Another well-known LAA application is Photoshop CS2. Photoshop users already know about the importance of this setting.

The change is permanent on your computer; you do not need to make it more than once. It changes the boot configuration of Windows so that it is in effect every time you boot.

Not all computers and not all applications play nice with it. If you find your computer has become unstable, or an application has become unstable, you can revoke it with "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 2048".

This is not necessary with 64-bit Windows. On 64-bit Windows, TW2 already gets the full address space (4GB) that a 32-bit application can have.

Been seeing a lot of people with the same issue I had, but now the game runs perfectly fine for me after I did these little steps. Hope this works for all of you aswell.

1. Open command prompt with Administrator rights. To do this, go to Programs, Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and select "Run as Administrator."

2. Enter the following at the prompt and press enter: bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 3072

3. Close the prompt and restart the computer.

Again, hope this rectifies all the issues players are experiencing with this little problem.

I'm not sure how to do this, could somebody go into more detail? I'm quite bad at this kind of thing, and I really want to start playing the game.

I'm on Vista so this is what I did:

1. Click the start button
2. Hit "all programs" and go to "acessories"
3. Scroll to "Command Prompt" program and right click it so you get a list of options
4. Then click "Open as Administrator"
5 Then you can type, or copy and paste in the command line:

bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 3072

6. Restart your computer and and give the game a try. Sometimes I still run into a crash but it is really rare now.

I don't know if this is the same issue, but I can play solo I just can't join any multiplayer games. Anytime I join a multiplayer game it crashes.

I'm using Windows 7, but I find a helpful guide online. Nevertheless, thanks for your help. :)
This fix worked for me, though I haven't played online yet because of the empty server list big. I'm gonna give it another try now. :)
